“Space, the Final Frontier”: The New Frontiers of Resource Development – Space Mining

The First Trillionaire will make their fortune in space ventures according to renowned futurist Neil deGrasse Tyson. But few people understand what the space economy is let alone understand the investment opportunities that will become available. That has not stopped investment banks like Morgan Stanley, consulting firms like McKinsey or media outlets like the Financial Times and the Economist dedicate teams of professionals to catch this “tiger” they have by the tail.

As science fiction moves closer to becoming science reality, how do we think of the development of resources in Space and Space Mining.  Please join us as we explore themes like what really is Space Mining and the broader Space Economy,  how realistic is it, what is the time frame and path to development and how can it help the betterment of mankind.

The Asia Mining Club is pleased to host a unique luncheon panel on the topic of Space Mining with a group of distinguished experts in the areas of Space exploration, Space resources and the Space economy.  Please join us for what should be a very special and informative discussion.  Are you ready to take a ride?

We look forward to your participation.

Metals & Mining Outlook 2024

Global miners have rallied on iron ore and coal price strength in the last few months, with valuation multiples remaining at or above mid-cycle levels. China’s steel demand signals a tentative recovery, yet the continued disappointment in economic announcements, sustained geopolitical instability and the turn in global monetary policy all implies it’s going to be an interesting year.

Join us together with Bloomberg for an outlook on the metals and mining sector in 2024. Our distinguished panel of market analysts, strategists, financial advisors and industry executives will share their views on markets, commodities, rates and FX, and the mining sector to help you navigate the challenging times ahead.

In Conversation with Australian Minister for Resources, The Honourable Madeleine King MP

Australia’s economy is largely built on its’ natural resources, with mining being Australia’s single largest industry contributing over 70% of the nation’s global exports. The sector has remained relatively stable and profitable, even amid the uncertainty of the pandemic. Australia’s natural resources, and mining, will play a pivotal role in the future prosperity of all Australians, Australia’s engagement with the world and the global movement on climate change and de-carbonisation.

The Australian mining sector is one of those most open to foreign investment, remains a cornerstone of Australia’s high levels of employment, and a major beneficiary of research activity and technological innovations that help advance its development.

As one of the world’s leading producers of critical minerals and metals, Australia’s mining sector is adapting to sustainability challenges, while also standing on the brink of unprecedented opportunities from a low-carbon future. To achieve this, not only is new investment required, but new technology and innovations are needed, as well as enhancements to workplace productivity.

Against this backdrop, AustCham Hong Kong and Asia Mining Club welcome the opportunity to hear from Australia’s Minister for Resources, The Hon Madeleine King MP. Minister King will share her views on:

• the critical role of mining in Australia’s economy
• the opportunities for Australia to fuel the global clean energy transition
• the challenges facing the industry in Australia and internationally
• the Australian government’s roadmap for supporting the mining sector

Following her address, Minister King will participate in a Q&A. Please note Minister King will join the event by video link.

The event includes lunch, tea/coffee and networking with the AustCham community.

We all hear a lot about energy transition and the move to a carbon neutral world – it requires years of investment and trillions of dollars.  But how do you get there and what do you need?  One thing you need is minerals …. a lot of minerals! Full House – The Future of Gold as an Asset Class – 21 March 2023

Gold has had a good run …. for over 2,500 years for that matter! But does gold still have a future as an asset class? Gold was first used as a form of currency as early as 550 BC when King Croesus minted coins in what is now Turkey. But the adoption of the gold standard in the late 1800s, cemented its value in modern day finance. This was when most major nations fixed the value of their currency to the gold price.  But recently many people have questioned its role in the financial sector and its value as a traditional store of value in the face of other alternatives.  So what is the future for gold and with it the gold sector? How is the gold industry preparing for a future shaped by emerging financial technology and ESG priorities.  Returning to speak to the Asia Mining Club is David Garofalo, Chairman and CEO of Gold Royalty Corp., and one of the gold industries most experienced and respected executives.  Please join us for lunch on March 21st at the Foreign Correspondents Club for an insightful discussion.
